Recent Experiences

Hi,
I think it’s been a while since i’ve posted something. I have been doing things, just haven’t been blogging about them.

The last major ‘experience’ happened last week…Splendour in the Grass.
It had to be one of the best things I have ever done. I haven’t really been camping before, so that was different, but it was heaps of fun. The lineup for the festival was the best I have ever seen.  It consisted of:

  • The Strokes
  • The Temper Trap
  • The Pixies
  • Mumford and Sons
  • Passion Pit
  • The Vines
  • Two Door Cinema Club
  • HOT CHIP

And many others that were awesome.

I’ll upload some photos soon.

The last 2 experiences happened on the weekend.
Friday night was our trip to Sono Japanese Restaurant at Hamilton. I was amazed by how nice it looked. They had traditional seating along the side window which had the view of the water (Brisbane river). That’s where we sat hehe. I was expecting to be sitting on the the floor, but how they had designed it was that you step onto a higher floor then they had a small seat that you could sit on and have your legs inside the higher floor. Wow, that’s really had to explain. Not sure if that makes sense. Here’s some photos i’ve found on Google.

We were sitting on the left corner table.

We had a variety of meals – starting off with Sushi and these crab croquets. Then going on to our mains – Greg had Snapper with clam sauce and I had fish (cod) marinated in miso soup (it was the best fish I have ever had!). Then finishing with dessert – Greg had a Strawberry Mousse cake (it tasted so fresh) and I had Tempera Ice cream.

On saturday we went to a Vietnamese restaurant called Red Lotus with our friends Erin and Nick. We ordered a banquet dinner, and got so much food. Way too much. One of the dishes they served was raw beef with some vegetables, and was cooked in front of us by using mentholated spirits and fire to cook the ingredients in the bowl. At one stage, the fire went out, so they added more metho to the saucer under neath, and spilt some on the table in front of me, and still lit it. The fire was on the table less than 30 cm away from me. Haha, the waiter kept trying to blow it out, but it kept coming back. After that he was so nervous. He was shaking when he was handing us plates etc. Overall, it wasn’t too bad though. It was quite eventful, and think that it made the night.

Sunday

Was the first Australian Big day Out for 2010…
It was so busy! Even at 10:30 in the morning! It seems like it gets bigger, and of course, more expensive every year.
We got up at 7:10am (which was lucky because our alarm didn’t go off at 6:50am), and drove to the gold coast. On the way we saw a dead dog in the middle of the Pacific Motorway, that wasn’t kewl. (Just thought i’d add that) We decided to park at Greg’s Aunty’s house for free, instead of paying $30, had a bit of a chat, then walked to the parklands. The first band we saw was DZ. They were ok, I wasn’t really into them because all of their songs sound the same. Then we saw I Heart Hiroshima, they were good as usual. Next was Lisa Mitchell, she was awesome. Laole, she asked the crowd not to throw coins at her while she was playing Coin Laundry…

Next was Karnivool on the Orange stage, they were ok…I only new the songs they had released, so I wasn’t very into it.
Then we made our way back to Green stage where The Temper Trap were playing. It was so hot in there…There were so many people inside that smallish tent, and no air was getting inside it. I had never ever been that sweaty, yuck! But they were worth it. 🙂

Next we had some Lunch, and saw a bit of Eskimo Joe and Girl Talk, before getting into the Boiler Room for Midnight Juggernauts. They were pretty awesome. They sounded better on Sunday than they had at the Hi-Fi a few months ago. After that, we made our way to the 2 main stages, so we could get a good spot for Muse. At these stages we saw Lily Allen, The Mars Volta, Powderfinger, and lastly, Muse.

This year’s Big Day out was awesome overall. Although It was really hot, and I got some bad blisters. 🙂
